Secrests of Garzacocha & Lagartococha
Garzacocha & Lagartococha is a remote and biodiverse area located in the Ecuadorian Amazon. It is a pristine region known for its abundant wildlife, including caimans, giant otters, monkeys, and countless bird species. The name “Lagartococha” translates to “Lagoon of Lizards,” reflecting the area’s natural connection to water and its role as a habitat for reptiles and aquatic species.

Kapawi Ecolodge, opened in 1996, is a pioneer of community ecotourism in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Located in a remote area, it is accessible via a 50-minute flight from the town of Shell, which is a 4-5 hour drive from Quito. Sapara Community
The Sapara community is an indigenous group native to the Amazon rainforest, primarily residing in eastern Ecuador. Recognized for their rich cultural heritage and unique language, the Zápara people are one of the most ancient ethnic groups in the region. However, their population is small, with only a few hundred members remaining, making their culture and language critically endangered.
