Our journey begins at the entrance to the Cuyabeno River, where we’ll enjoy a tasty box lunch.

Next, our naturalist guide will share insights about the Cuyabeno Reserve and provide important recommendations before we embark on a two-hour canoe ride along the Cuyabeno River to Jamu Lodge.

During the ride, you’ll get your first glimpse of the jungle, with opportunities to spot a variety of birds such as caciques, orioles, and the prehistoric Hoatzin. Depending on the weather conditions, you may also encounter different species of monkeys and other jungle wildlife.

We’ll arrive at Jamu Lodge around 4:30 PM, where you’ll be shown to your room to unwind. After some relaxation, we’ll head out to swim in the lagoon and enjoy a stunning sunset over Laguna Grande.

Afterward, you’ll return to the lodge for dinner and can spend the rest of the evening lounging in a hammock or sipping a drink at the bar, wrapping up your first day in the Amazon.

After breakfast we depart in a canoe downriver for about an hour to visit a family from the Tarapuy community, where we can learn how to prepare Casabe, a traditional Yuca bread, where we will help in its preparation. 

We will also learn to use the materials of the jungle to make bread, in this we occupy the whole day until two in the afternoon, when we will have to return to the Lodge.

After lunch we have relaxation activities; To end the day we will have a short walk through the primary forest focused on observing nocturnal insects, such as spiders, gekos or scorpions and listening to the noises and sounds of the night.

On day 4, the activities include a birdwatching excursion in a traditional native canoe known as a “quilla,” followed by another walk through the forest. Paddling through the waterways offers an excellent opportunity to observe the diverse flora and fauna up close, providing a clear sense of what a flooded forest truly looks like.

During this immersive experience, you can spot a wide variety of birds and monkeys in their natural habitat. As this activity lasts approximately 4 to 5 hours, a box lunch will be provided to enjoy during the tour.

On the fifth and final day of the 5-day Cuyabeno tour, an optional early morning birdwatching excursion is available, weather permitting. After returning to the lodge, you’ll enjoy a delicious breakfast before starting the journey back to the Cuyabeno Reserve Bridge, where the tour concludes.
