Bellavista offers comfortable lodging, its own 700 hectare (2000 acres) private reserve, as well as tasty and varied cuisine and fine wines.
The Colombo-British owners and all who work here believe in genuinely friendly, personal service. Ecotourism as it trully should be: options to explore the many trails of our own reserve with our naturalist guides, or indeed alone…!

General Interest Programs
Our three-day trip is a wonderful way to become acquainted with the special environment of a cloud forest so close to Quito – only one hour 50 minutes away! This package includes an excursion to see a local avian wonder – the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock…. We offer our guests a unique stay in paradise, above the forest canopy, surrounded by myriads of hummingbirds! You will enjoy our generous servings of gourmet food, the fabulous views of forest and mountains, and our extensive network of safe, well-marked trails. Plus a special excursion to watch the famous Cock of the Rock!
ITINERARY: Note: these hours are approximate except for the pick up hour.
Day 1:
AM: At 6:15 / 6:30 AM your driver will collect you at your hotel. We’ll start driving along the Calacali – Nanegalito road with colourful landscapes And ever-changing vistas all the way. At km 52, we will turn left and on to the secondary road which for about 30 more minutes will take as to Bellavista Lodge, perched at the top of the Tandayapa Valley. Arrival at Bellavista. Your guides will greet you here, indicate rooms and facilities, before going for breakfast.
09:30 a.m. : Discovery hike into Bellavista Reserve´s forest! Your guide will choose the best trails and hike options according to the group size (no more than 8 hikers), weather and trail conditions. After 2 or more hours of easy and very educative hike, you are back in the lodge for lunch.
PM: your package includes another forest hike into another different trail among the many trails in Bellavista – discover the ecology of this mysterious forest. Or take a birding-specific hike! Dinner. You may well get a good sighting of the delightful Olinguito, and maybe the Kinkajoo, right at the Lodge! Overnight at Lodge
Day 2: El Gallito de la Peña
AM: 5.00 AM Departure with private transfer to a local reserve to experience the Cock-of-theRock lek, and possibly other avian wonders. Back to lodge about 8:30 AM for breakfast and guided hike in Bellavista.
PM: An option to go and discover the trails on your own, along the self-guided trail or by the aid of our trail-map. This will definitely be a highly exciting moment. Or, join your included guided hike with your guide at 3 PM or just sit and chat with other guests while watching the feeders at close quarters full of hummingbirds of 10-12 different species! Dinner and overnight.
Day 3:
AM: Early morning bird hike – recommended! This is the best time to see beautiful, colourful birds surprisingly close.
8:00 AM: Breakfast Further hikes for discovery of the exuberant forests around the lodge are as planned in your package, or talk to your guide about Day Excursion options beyond Bellavista! Or take time to simply relax!
PM: Lunch At 2.30 / 3:00 PM, your driver will be waiting for you to embark for your transfer back to Quito City or airport. At around 17:00 / 17.30 PM you will be arriving back at your hotel in Quito. Note: Hiking routes are flexible.
