Itinerary

Day 1

Our Amazon adventure begins at the Arajuno Bridge, where we’ll board a motorized canoe for a 20-minute journey upriver through the lush tropical forest to Itamandi Eco Lodge.

As we glide along the winding river—resembling a giant snake weaving through the jungle—you’ll be immersed in the magic and beauty of the Amazon rainforest, often regarded as the lifeblood of Pacha Mama (Mother Earth).

Upon arrival at the Itamandi Eco Lodge dock, our friendly staff will greet you with a warm welcome. After settling in, you’ll relax in the lounge area with a refreshing tropical snack. A brief orientation led by one of our naturalist guides will provide essential information about your stay and the activities planned. Lunch will follow this introduction.

Night Hike in the Jungle
Equipped with a flashlight and camera, you’ll embark on an exciting nighttime excursion into the heart of the jungle. This is your chance to experience the nocturnal symphony of the rainforest, hearing and observing creatures such as fishing bats, owls, insects, tarantulas, toads, frogs, and perhaps even snakes. If the skies are clear, you may also marvel at a dazzling display of stars above the canopy.

Day 2

Meeting the Magical Kichwa Community

After breakfast, we’ll venture into the primary and secondary forests for a guided hike lasting approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. This immersive experience offers a glimpse into the diverse ecosystems of the Amazon.

In the afternoon, we’ll delve into the rich culture of the region with a visit to a Kichwa community. Here, you’ll learn about their traditional way of life and their deep connection to the jungle. This encounter reveals the human side of the Amazon—the people who live harmoniously with nature, yet remain largely unseen on maps.

During the visit, you’ll participate in preparing “chicha,” a fermented yuca drink central to their celebrations and daily life. You’ll also sample traditional dishes and witness a lively cultural dance performed by the community. There will be an opportunity to purchase handmade crafts, supporting the livelihoods of the indigenous artisans.

Day 3

Discovering Creatures on Anaconda Island

We’ll take a 40-minute canoe ride to Anaconda Island, a haven for wildlife. Along the way, keep an eye out for fascinating species such as the prehistoric Hoatzin bird, woolly monkeys, and squirrel monkeys, among others. We’ll also visit a local family in an indigenous community to learn about their cultivation practices, medicinal plants, and ancestral hunting techniques using blowguns and handmade traps.

After lunch, we’ll head to Amazoonico, a rescue center dedicated to protecting Amazonian animals, some of which are endangered. Unlike a zoo, Amazoonico provides a safe haven for these creatures, allowing you to observe them in a setting close to their natural habitat.

Day 4

Early in the morning, we’ll take a 15-minute canoe ride upriver to the Parrot Saladero, a unique site where parrots and parakeets gather to consume mineral-rich clay that aids in their digestion of fruits and seeds. Watch as hundreds of colorful birds descend from the treetops to feast on the clay wall. Binoculars are highly recommended to fully appreciate this breathtaking natural spectacle before bidding farewell to the Amazon.
