Itinerary
Day 1
Begin Your Adventure from Quito
Set off early in the morning from Quito for a day full of nature and discovery. After a scenic two-hour drive across the Andes, you’ll experience a dramatic shift in scenery as you descend from 2,800 to 1,000 meters above sea level. Upon arrival at Kapari Natural Lodge, you’ll be greeted with a refreshing local drink before beginning your exploration of the rich Chocó forest.
Journey Through the Biodiverse Forest
We’ll start with a pleasant 2-hour hike through this vibrant ecosystem toward the Blanco River. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to observe the unique flora and fauna of the Andean Chocó region. Keep an eye out for colorful tanagers, hummingbirds, toucans, and other fascinating wildlife that call this area home.
Gourmet Lunch at the Lodge
After your walk, return to the lodge for a well-deserved gourmet lunch served in our restaurant, offering a delightful mix of local and international flavors.
Choose Your Experience
In the afternoon, choose between two great options:
Latitude 0 Trail: Embark on a scenic walk where you can stand in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres in one day. The trail leads you through endemic cloud forest vegetation to a beautiful waterfall, offering stunning views over the Blanco River.
Relax & Unwind: Alternatively, enjoy the comforts of our lodge—swim in the heated pool, relax in the panoramic jacuzzi, play games in the recreation room, try a game of soccer, unwind in the peaceful bird garden, or treat yourself to a soothing massage in our spa cabin.

Evening Fusion Dinner
As night falls, enjoy a delicious fusion dinner blending international cuisine with traditional Ecuadorian dishes, specially prepared by our chef.
Optional Night Walk
For those who wish to explore further, we offer a guided night walk along our trails. This is a perfect opportunity to spot nocturnal species such as amphibians, reptiles, insects, and some active mammals and birds under the forest canopy.
Day 2
Early Morning Birdwatching in the Chocó Region
Begin your day at dawn with an unforgettable birdwatching experience, observing the vibrant and diverse birdlife of the Chocó. To make it easy for guests to spot over 40 species of birds—and occasionally some mammals—we’ve selected strategic observation points within just 200 meters of your room. Designed especially for photographers and bird enthusiasts, we offer a quiet hideout where you can observe around 35 bird species in approximately one hour. You may see hummingbirds, toucans, tanagers, seedeaters, woodcreepers, flycatchers, motmots, and even mammals like the Andean spectacled bear, agouti, and squirrels. At night, the Guanta—a key rodent species in the reserve—may also appear.
Kapari Breakfast & The Owl Trail
After this exciting wildlife encounter, enjoy a traditional Kapari breakfast to fuel up for the next adventure. Then, set off on the Owl Trail, a scenic path that winds along a cliffside, offering breathtaking views of the valley and the Blanco River. This trail provides a unique perspective of the Chocó Andino Biological Corridor, almost like being on the balcony of a living botanical garden. During the walk, you may spot impressive birds such as the Crested Owl and four different species of toucans.
Explore the Natural Beauty of Kapari
From the lodge, you can explore the hidden wonders of the mountains, valleys, and the pristine Blanco River. Kapari offers a network of ecological trails suitable for both day and night excursions—perfect for nature lovers, birdwatchers, butterfly enthusiasts, and those who appreciate exotic flowers, streams, and natural springs.
For ease of exploration, our trail system spans various elevations, offering diverse perspectives of the reserve. Additionally, guests with mobility challenges can enjoy the scenic route by vehicle, stopping at key viewpoints to take in the breathtaking landscapes.
